The ASCA National Model® guides school counselors in the development of school counseling programs that:

  • are based on data-informed decision making
  • are delivered to all students systematically
  • include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success
  • close achievement and opportunity gaps (see how equity is woven into the ASCA National Model®)
  • result in improved student achievement, attendance, and discipline

Role of the School Counselor

  • School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes.
  • They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan.
  • They uphold the ethical and professional standards of ASCA and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the following areas of the ASCA National Model: define, deliver, manage and assess.

 

  • Los consejeros estudiantiles diseñan e implementan programas de asesoramiento escolar que mejoran los resultados de los estudiantes.
  • Lideran, defienden y colaboran para promover igualdad y acceso
    para todos los estudiantes al conectar su programa de asesoramiento escolar con el plan de mejora escolar y la misión académica de la escuela.
  • Acatan los estándares profesionales y éticos de ASCA y promueven el desarrollo del programa de asesoramiento escolar basado en las siguientes áreas del Modelo Nacional de ASCA: definir, implementar, administrar y evaluar.
